GAMZE SEBER

Director, performer, actress, and healer

Gamze Seber is a Turkish born director, performer, actress, and healer. She has worked as an actress in several theatres in Istanbul, Vienna and London. She has appeared in 4 feature films, including the British movie called ‘One Night in Istanbul’ (2014), in which she played the female leading role. She wrote an autobiographical play called ‘Kursak’. She had double law degrees in Istanbul and as well as in Vienna. After that she started her doctorate in Human Rights at the University of Vienna. During all these academic studies, she continued her theatre career with plays in German and English in two different theatre groups. Her work in the arts and law made her realize that the most effective way to express social inequality is through art. This awareness prompted her to quit her legal career.

She trained physical Theatre at CGSM (Contemporary Performing Arts Centre) in Istanbul with the Ecole Jacques Lecoq`s teachers with the collaboration of ESAD (Paris City High Conservatory). She moved to London to study acting at the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA), where she won a scholarship in 2014. In 2015, she was accepted to the 7th London International Passion for Freedom festival and was awarded the Special Jury Award with her video art ‘Breath’, which she designed, played, and directed, with the theme of the Gezi Events and the Suruç bomb. In 2018, she was selected and nominated for an award with her own video artwork named ‘Rememberance’, which deals with femicides and oppression and violence against women, at the same festival. These works were exhibited at The Royal Opera Arcade Gallery and Mall Galleries in London.
Gamze is also a yoga, meditation, mindfulness instructor and a shamanic healer. She integrates physical theatre with yoga and energy work to bring a different approach in to the acting with movement and organises creativity-enhancing workshops for artists and especially for actors.
